words matter

How you use words and combine them with your voice matters.

Have you leaned in? Are you are sitting at the table? If not, how do you raise your voice to be heard? If you are sitting at the table, now what?

Our Voice

Lisa Keohokalole Schauer is the creator and founder of Beautiful Voices. A strategic communicator, she is an outspoken champion for women in leadership. Her advocacy began in college when Lisa was one of 75 outstanding college women in the US selected to participate in a Women as Leaders Academic Seminar in Washington D.C. It was this experience that unleashed her passion to elevate and empower women’s voices in leadership.

Lisa has broken glass ceilings in the engineering world serving as the first female shareholder and first female Board Director in a private, for-profit firm. She co-founded a political action committee (PAC) in 2010, H-RoC named after the William Wallace quote, “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle Rules the World.” The PAC focuses on  electing local, non-partisan women leaders to elected office. Lisa has spoken regionally and nationally on various topics related to her advocacy for women in leadership.

lisa's professional bio
Lisa Schauer envisioned a life in politics believing elected office was the primary way to serve her community. She has learned there are many ways to serve as an effective community leader. Lisa has worked in government, private industry and not-for-profit organizations. A perpetual student, Lisa’s thirst for learning and leadership led her to Washington D.C. where she worked for the Secretary of Interior in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. She returned to the Pacific Northwest as the Director of Governmental Affairs for the Clark County chapter of the Homebuilder’s Association of Washington. Before her departure, her role expanded to include Community Affairs.

Lisa was recruited to join the management team of MacKay Sposito, a civil engineering and land surveying company, to launch a business development and marketing program with an emphasis on local government sales. Lisa was asked to join the partnership group where she possessed over 20% ownership, was the first female Partner and the first female Board Director. During her tenure, Lisa contributed to tripling the staff size (50-160 employees) and revenue ($5M – $18M). She also led many of the firm’s largest business development efforts ranging from $50k to $75M contracts. Lisa held roles as Vice President, Business Development; Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer before she left the company to re-launch PointNorth with her husband, Al.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do Circles work?
We meet monthly for 90-minutes. We share, we listen, we collaborate. Each month the circle will have a theme with two questions sent to members prior to our meeting for consideration. Circles begin in October and wrap up in June.

If you chose the in-person experience we add great food and the option of a cocktail to your circle experience. If you’re not located in the Portland, Oregon metro area and you are interested in bringing Beautiful Voices to your area to form an in-person circle let us know!

If you choose the online experience we will connect with our voices. The online experience allows us to connect without the constraints of geography!
Why join a circle?
Circles create opportunities for learning and they are an investment in you. Not a self-care kind of investment but a tangible, define your voice, and learn from other women investment. Building a tribe of like-minded professional women who are committed to learning from you while they offer mentoring opportunities is one of the best ways for you to invest in your continued professional development.
How are members chosen?
Each circle is built intentionally. We want to savor the time together with a commitment to learning, the ability to trust and the opportunity to confide in one another. That’s why we spend time ensuring we don’t put industry or company competitors in the same circle. We are not about competing and we don’t want you to feel defensive before we even get started! Instead, we want you to feel supported and ready to be part of lifting other women.

Why all women? I like working with men too!
Our challenges as women are often created by other women. Yeah, we said it! As women we often believe we must compete with each other. That’s not always true. Now, that doesn’t mean men don’t play a role in our silence but we can do so much together if we are committed to raising our voices, to being heard as we lift each other.
What does membership to a circle cost?
Members commit to a 9-month experience. In-person participation is $75 per month (alcoholic beverages not included). Locations may shift through the year. Online participation is $50 per month.

High School / College Emerging Leader circles are $30 per month for an in-person experience. We currently only offer in-person experiences in the Portland, Oregon area. All youth programs require parental permission. If you are interested in online experience let’s talk.

Each circle must have a minimum of 10 members.

Membership is paid at the first of the month. A 10% discount will be applied to annual (9-month) memberships.  If you are interested in an online experience let’s talk.
